Pricing & Turnaround

Prices for all our regular services are shown below. These are our standard prices and reflect the price that customers sending regular types and numbers of samples can expect to pay. Should you have specific DNA analysis needs that are not met by any of our standard options or have large numbers of samples, please don't hesitate to contact us regarding your requirements or for volume pricing. Additional information on volume-pricing can be found in our Spend-Down Accounts section below.

Please note that prices are exclusive of VAT, which customers outside The University of Dundee will be charged at the appropriate rate (currently 20%) on all products.

Spend-Down Accounts for DNA Sequencing

The most inexpensive way to do DNA sequencing! Whether you just don't want the bother of getting a new purchase order every time, you want to "bank" some grant money or you want to take advantage of the great savings available, our spend-down accounts are just what you need. Due to the nature of our work, we can only apply the substantial cost-savings to our basic* DNA Sequencing reactions, however spend-down accounts can be applied to ALL our services.

*Unfortunately, due to the complexity of GC-rich templates, BAC/PAC/YAC clones and our 96-well plate service, we cannot offer additional savings on these.

How to Purchase Spend-Down Account

  • Please simply purchase a set number of reactions online when setting up your account
  • The corresponding amount of credit will show up for your account

Using your Spend-Down Account

  • Upon initiating the order process, when paying, just select ‘Use Spend-Down Account’
  • The number of reactions purchased will be deducted from your account, accordingly

DNA Sequencing: PCR

Reactions

Services Requested Pricing (per Reaction)
Sequencing  £5.00
Sequencing + Quant-It* NA
Sequencing + Augmented Protocol^ £5.50
Sequencing + Quant-It* + Augmented Protocol^ NA

  • *Quant-It: Please note that we are unable to offer the Quant-It service when PCR products are used as templates. This is because we use a Nanodrop spectrophotometer to determine DNA concentrations of templates that are provided to us and the use of spectrophotometric analysis for determining PCR product concentrations is often unreliable due to the presence of other PCR components (e.g. primers, dNTPs, background products). This can even be the case with "purified" products, depending on how clean they are. Customers should also note that purification of PCR products can be unnecessary or even detrimental to the sequencing reaction. Please take a look at our dedicated help page on sequencing PCR products for more information.
  • ^Augmented Protocol: If your template has known secondary structure or a high GC content, £0.50 will be applied per reaction to facilitate the sequencing reaction using an 'Augmented Protocol'

DNA Sequencing: 96 Well Plates

FOR STANDARD PLASMIDS:  If all your templates are of a similar composition (<20kb and do not contain secondary structure/high GC-content) each sample on a 96-well plate can be processed at a cost of £4.50 per well

Turnaround

To achieve optimal results with such large templates, we have to modify our standard sequencing conditions and so these samples have to be processed separately. We routinely perform the cycle sequencing reactions on the day the samples are supplied to us, followed by evaluation of productions on our sequencers.

Given the specialised nature of these samples, please understand that turnaround times may be slightly longer than for standard-sized templates.

DNA Sequencing: EST Sequencing

STANDARD EST SEQUENCES:  If all your templates are of a similar composition (<20kb and do NOT contain secondary structure/high GC-content) each EST can be processed for the following costs:

Sequencing in ONE Direction EST Sequencing in TWO Directions

  • Processing of ESTs includes:
    • Streaking of colonies
    • Isolation of 4 colonies

FOR PLASMIDS WITH HIGH GC-CONTENT:  If all your templates are of a similar composition (<20kb, containing secondary structure/high GC-content) each EST can be processed at the costs indicated below. This is due to the fact that an 'Augmented Protocol' will be used for plasmids known to contain secondary structure/high GC-content.

Sequencing in ONE Direction EST Sequencing in TWO Directions
£41 £46
  • Processing of ESTs includes:
    • Streaking of colonies
    • Isolation of 4 colonies
    • Extraction of 4 colonies/mini-prep growth
    • Sequencing of up to 2 separate colonies

Primer

Turnaround

Turnaround time for this option will be highly dependent on receipt of a customer’s EST clone and as well as the requisite number of days needed for each of the steps outlined above. We can routinely provide sequence information of ESTs (utilizing standard primers) within 4 working days of receipt of the clone.
